Annie the Owl is a new pop up edition to London’s bar scene where visitors can enjoy a smoothie in the company of one of many owls.

Unusual pop-up bars are taking London by storm and this quirky new venue is set to be no different – enjoying a drink with an owl on your arm is the next trend after rooftop bars.

Some lucky Londoners, thanks to the five days event of “Annie the Owl”, will have the possibility to spend two hours surrounded by birds of prey and learn some curious facts about owls.

Annie the Owl is a project born to the founder of the app “Locappy”, Sebastian Lyall. The aim of the new pop-up is to educate people about these creatures and their habits and also to safeguard the birds. The money raised from ticket sales will be donated to an owl sanctuary, where birds that have injured or badly kept are taken care of.

“The logo of the app is an owl. That is how the idea started,” said Lyall. “We thought, lets give something interesting and unique to our community and to London. The success lied in us giving something truly unique to London and touching people’s hearts.”

The only way to get the ticket for the pop up exhibition was applying online. More than 81,000 take their chances entering the ballot, but only 750 were the chosen ones, due to time and space restrictions.

“I wanted to attend this event because I love owls, they are majestic. Being able to hold the owls was the most impressing moment of the night. The handlers were so knowledgeable and it has been very interesting to hear about the owls breed and facts and dispelling myths about them,” said Kim Adams, 29, a lucky Social Media Manager who attended the event.

"We have no plans for a second animal based event,” said Sebastian Lyall. "However we will continue to do events which are unique and wow people!" /
