Holloway Road is not short of pubs, with over 10 pubs within walking distance they are frequented by students of London Metropolitan University, Arsenal fans, and local businessmen of the area.
Increasingly as more of the pubs are renovated, the face of Holloway Road pubs is becoming more gentrified with two older pubs in the last few months reopening.
John Blacks, a local pub frequenter said: ‘’A lot of the pubs are trying to compete with the pubs down the road in Angel. It is only a short walk and a lot of the younger crowd is migrating towards them with comedy nights on offer.’’
The Lord Palmerston reopened after several months of being closed for a refurbishment to the bar and the restaurant area. It is one of the many pubs looking to update its front and look to compete with other gentrified pubs in Angel and Islington.
Joanna Lee, a bartender at the Metro said: “We are one of the older traditional looking pubs of Holloway Road, I think it would be sad to see all of the old pubs updated to compete with the younger trades.’’
