It is noticeable that we have not seen many Asian models in mainstream magazines, televisions programs and films. Could it be that there is a preference to Caucasian women by advertising agencies and media houses or perhaps, it is due to cultural objections by the Asian community towards modelling as a vocation? Whatever the reasons, TMP-The largest Asian modelling agency in Europe is set to change all of that.
TMP is an agency founded by the charismatic and engaging entrepreneur Marcus Fleming in 2007. They have clients from the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and India just to name a few. TMP is located in the basement studio of an office block just a few meters away from Kentish Town tube station.
Speaking to the Holloway express, Shayan Sajid, the booking manager told us that the business has a huge demand for models in the last two years. Clients can book models for overseas modelling session for as long as a month.
The models that booked for overseas assignments are almost always contracted for a month stay. The client can take advantage of this longer stay to carry out a good number of shoots. In this regard, the booking can be longer, depending on how many bookings the model is getting and how well the clients are responding to them. But, the general rule is a month.
Speaking to Holloway express, one of the models Naeya Thaper was asked what she felt was the most rewarding aspects of modelling are.
She thinks for a moment before answering: “Seeing yourself in a number of different photo shoots can be liberating and empowering.”
Thaper added, “At first it was quite hard to get into, to find the right agency for Asian models. Then I came across TMP agency and I thought it was perfect for me.”
Vishali-another model we spoke with talked about those that inspired her to take up modelling.
“Growing up, whenever I thought about models, I would picture Naomi Campbell and Gisele. Now I am called to go for catwalks and it seems I am having an out of body experience. It is really cool.”
TMP provides a very easy application process and the requirements for would be models. The criterion is simple-You had to be aged between 17 and 29, and should be a dress size of 14 and under. And of course be of Asian origin.
Potential candidates, who ticked those boxes, will just need to upload the photos of them onto the TMP agency website for a review. Shayan says they receive over a one hundred uploads a week with only a handful making it through.
The formula is what makes TMP successful getting Asian models into the mainstream fashion industry.
