Times ABC boxer Zac Chelli makes a striking comeback from defeat by winning gold at the Youth Three Nations Championships.
At the championship tournament in Rotherham last weekend, 17-year-old Zac Chelli won a great defeat over his rival with a unanimous decision.
During a semifinal heat the previous day, Zac Chelli came up against the Wales team captain Kieran Jones.
Chelli controlled the first round with strong and controlled punching; Jones came in strong during the second and third rounds as the two went head to head, but it was Chelli whose skill and strength earned him a unanimous decision.
It was during the tense final that the young middleweight showed his strength against his opponent and England teammate Whittaker, who had previously beaten European champion Willie Hutchinson.
Chelli landed more powerful shots against Whittaker during the heated final round and stood his ground strong enough to earn himself the gold medal.
Following Chelli’s outstanding win, Times head coach Dave Ryan said:
“There is no doubt that Zak is the best boxer in Great Britain, in the past three months Zak has faced the very best boxers in the country defeating all of them with indisputable ability. He is hundred percent committed to continue this success on the International stage and at Times ABC we are all working around him to make sure Zak achieves his goals.”
Zac has been trained by his father Zak Chelli Senior, also a boxer, since he was three-years-old says, “I am now Great Britain’s number one but I am working to be Europe’s number one. The Youth Commonwealth Games in Australia are next September and I am ready for it.”
Chelli’s incredible performance and ability has been him being tipped to compete in the Olympics. Dave Ryan has set up a sponsorship scheme for the promising young boxer in order to give him a chance of following his dreams.
